Craftmanship, art or masterpieces?

Santoni showcases the attributes of color in his creations. The colors are dense, rich and pictorial, with volumetric and round qualities, never flat and come in unexpected and precious shades. These unique colors are obtained through a special technique called "velatura", which gives the color the patina of time and an aged allure. The craftsmen at Santoni have refined this technique over time, which is similar to the procedures used by Renaissance artists and Venetian landscape painters. Velatura involves the application of color in successive layers until the desired shade occurs, resulting in a rich and dense color.

The process requires up to fifteen different steps, which are carefully carried out by hand and take several working hours. The final step involves hand polishing with creams and natural waxes applied with cashmere and silk cloths, giving each shoe a unique non-repeatable patina, like a fingerprint.
