Tie Guide - Four-In-Hand & Windsor

Four-in-hand - The tie knot that never runs out of time

The Four-In-Hand knot, also known as the "schoolboy knot", is the classic, simplest and most popular of all tie knots. The name flourished as early as the 19th century when it was named after a Gentlemen's Club of the same name.

Follow the guide step by step and we will make sure that you, once and for all, become a master at tying the Four-In-Hand knot.

Fourinhand Fourinhand

1. Start with the wide end of the tie on the left and the small end on the right. Start with the small end slightly above the navel (varies depending on your height and the length and thickness of the tie). Move only the active (wide) end.
2. Move the wide end over the small end to the right and under the small end to the left.
3. Across and to the right.
4. Up in the neck loop from below.
5. Down through the loop you just created.
6. Tighten the knot by pulling down on the wide end. Push up the knot and adjust so you feel satisfied and comfortable.

Windsor – For you who want to take the step a little further

This triangular, robust knot is a personal favorite, but not as common as the Four-In-Hand knot. The name comes from the Duke of Windsor, Edward III, as it has long been rumored that he was the author of this knot. This has since been denied and it has been established that he actually used the Four-In-Hand knot.

Regardless of what is true or not, the Windsor knot has gained a large foothold in fashion and it is here to stay. The Windsor knot, with its thicker knot, fits especially well with the cut-away collar.

Follow the steps below to master this handsome tie knot.
